There are three approaches to valuation as per the International Valuation Standards (IVS) - Market approach, Income approach and Cost approach. Regarding machinery and business asset valuations the market and cost approaches are often used. Market approach compares apples to apples, whereas the cost approach is used for more specialized or bespoke assets. The cost approach begins by determining the cost of replacement and then depreciation is applied based on the age, use and condition.
Machinery and Business Assets valuations cover a variety of sectors including infrastructure, construction, engineering, agriculture, education and healthcare equipment. Specific equipment that requires an assessment of value could be cranes, construction vehicles, cutting machinery, office equipment and typical school equipment.
We determine Market Value (MV) by first understanding the facts e.g its current age, use and condition. Then we apply methodologies, e.g depreciate it depending on its lifecycle. Different types of assets depreciate at different rates of speed depending on the frequency of usage and the category of asset lifecycle. For example electronics will have a different lifecycle to a construction crane.
